What a competitive match today against Pelican Marsh, isn't this how the CTA wants our leagues ?
Going into this match both teams knew they had to win to make the playoffs, & wow, did everyone show up !
Our ever improving court 1 team of Burns/Dorshorst really came to play & overcame a strong hitting & mobil home team 6-4, 6-2, despite Mark having some stomach issues. Mark's partner, Stephen Dorshorst, continues to improve by leaps & bounds, finishing the season with a 7-0 record AND number 1 in the Collier County rankings. CONGRATULATIONS Stephen, you have worked so hard to get where you are & deserve the recognition....Thanks.
Our team on Court 3, Acosta & Horowitz, met an extremely strong & experienced team, and despite competing in some very long rallies & games could not find a way to win the first set, that the home team secured 7-5 after more than a hours play. This first set took its toll & Pelican Marsh ran away with the second set, to love.
So this match, and our season, came down to the result on court 2, where Garon/Schmitz had lost a tightly contested first set 6-4. The second set went back & forth, eventually finishing tied at 6-6 & heading into a tie breaker. Garon & Schmitz knew exactly what was at stake, took the bull by the horns and won the second set, & leveled the whole match ! Way to go guys, stepping up when everything is on the line.
So after playing for 2 hours and with absolutely everything in our tennis world at stake ...... the match, the team's playoff hopes & a shot at the division championship .... Phil & Wayne began a third set tie break.
And they stayed focused, won the key points and eventually secured the third & deciding set, the match and OUR PLACE IN THE PLAYOFFS.
What a way to finish the regular season, CONGRATULATIONS to everyone involved, our team has hung tough.
It was great to have so much support from the spouses & John English, who's illness is preventing him from playing......
from Scott Seling, The Dunes 2.5 Men's Captain ( who have secured the first banner for our new amenities center) & John Preeg coming over to check on the team.
Our great result became even more significant after learning that Mediterra lost their second match today..........
SO THE DUNES MEN'S 3.0 TENNIS TEAM WON OUR DIVISION, and will be bringing home a well deserved & heavily fought for banner.
Our season now continues one more week & next Tuesday we will participate in the Playoffs, hosted, I think, down at Lely.
Our aim is to bring home a second banner !
And we should plan a joint celebration with Scott ......... how we miss the Tiki Bar ?
Celebrate, enjoy & see you on Tuesday as we try & finish the season with a real bang

Men's 2.5 Tennis
The 2.5 men’s tennis team continued its winning ways and remains in first place with one week to go! Lang and Seling suffered their first defeat losing in a tiebreaker.
They won the first set 6-3, before losing the second set 2-6 and 6-10 tiebreaker.
Lore and Reichenbach won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in impressive fashion. They finished quickly and efficiently, never even going to deuce.
Schmotter and Murray also won in straight sets just as effectively 6-3, 6-2, and were never seriously challenged as they won easily.
The team remains in first place and undefeated, 1 full game ahead and a 17 point lead going in to the last week!
Well this isn’t the way we wanted to win but CONGRATULATIONS to the men’s 2.5 tennis team as West Bay has forfeited Friday’s match and the Dunes Breakers finished UNDEFEATED and in FIRST PLACE for the Bonita fall season!
Way to go guys as we have a BANNER coming! Good Luck in the playoffs
